VULVA & VAGINA - HVA ER FORSKJELLEN?

VULVA & VAGINA - WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?

The ignorance is not only about hygiene, but also about our own anatomy. Vagina is a word that is often used to include everything "between the legs". But what we usually refer to is the vulva. The vulva is the outer part of the intimate area and the vagina is the inner canal that leads to the uterus. The vagina is self-cleaning. It has an army of bacteria that keep the vagina moist, healthy and with an acidic pH value. And like all bacteria, these also have an odor. This odor is completely natural. We all have different sets of bacteria and therefore have our own unique odor. If the odor changes character to a pungent or fishy smell, it is a sign of a bacterial imbalance. Just as unique as our own scent is the appearance of the vulva. It can be compared to a flower with two layers of unique petals. These “petals” are called the “labia,” which is Latin for lips. Between the outer and inner labia, the remains of dead skin cells, discharge, and menstrual blood can collect and cause bad odor and infections if not cleaned properly. “Taking proper care of your vulva will reduce your risk of developing infections, bacterial imbalances, pain during intercourse, eczema, and other concerns,” says Dr. Rebecka Kaplan.

Many women suffer from intimate health problems. Many of these problems can be avoided with knowledge of how to best care for your vulva. Gynecologist and vulvar expert Dr Rebecka Kaplan claims that the main cause of imbalance is our ignorance of self-care. "Soap-based products are the biggest cause of intimate health problems," says Dr Rebecka, who encounters many vulvar and vaginal problems in women on a daily basis. Even the mildest soaps dissolve lipids, making it easier for unwanted bacteria and fungi to attach to the lining and cause problems.

OIL CLEANING

Most women want to feel fresh in their intimate area and it can be difficult with just plain water (+ water itself is drying). And as we’ve learned before, soap is a big no-no when it comes to cleaning the vulva. A cleansing oil removes dirt and bad odors while keeping the vulva moist. Mucous membranes are sensitive, so washing with oil also reduces unnecessary friction that can irritate the sensitive mucous membrane. Since the mucous membrane is more absorbent than the skin on the rest of the body, it’s very important to choose good quality organic oils.

Lip Intimate Care is a Swedish award-winning brand of intimate products for women. The products are 100% natural, vegan and 70% organic.

Lip Intimate Care is made by women for women. The products are recommended by doctors and gynecologists.

"Regular use of soap will disturb a healthy vulva. As a doctor, I strongly recommend Lip Intimate Care's oil-based products. Excellent for daily use but also during periods in life when mucous membranes are particularly fragile."
